Summer plans

Hi everybody!, as you know summer time is getting close and most of students are now doing their final exams. But! that's not our situation in our university yet because we had a recess time of about a month during the year, so we are now finishing the semester in december in order to be able to go on vacations by January.

Some friends and I in our first practice

In January, me and my class have our second practice. This year we are going to be one week on Pantanillos, and another week in Malleco. So that's another 2 weeks losts on my vacation time, at least that is what any person would think, like my friends who don't study forestry, but not me! I love going to the field to learn more things about my career, so I'm pretty exited for those 2 weeks! :)

Valley of the Moon
Once I finish the practice, in February, me and my boyfriend are planning to go on a trip that involves going to the north of Chile, some parts of Peru and Bolivia. So far, we haven't planned anything in specific about our route once we start our trip, but we are planning to meet some friends that will be there travelling too. And also we want to know some particular places like Machupichu, the Titicaca lake, Salar de Uyuni and the Valley of the Moon. We estimate that we will be travelling for 3 weeks.

Titicaca Lake
And for the rest of the vacations, I'm planning to sleep a lot and rest. Maybe I'll go with my parents and siblings to a house my parents have on a hill near Llo Lleo. It's very quiet there, so it's perfect to rest. Also, it's near to the mouth of the Maipo river, so we always have a lot of fun going there because we can see a lot of different birds.

So far, that's what I know, I have to prepare for my final exams first! haha :(

What are you planning for this summer?, leave a comment!

My best friend

Hello! Today I'm going to talk about my best friend, Cristóbal. We have been friends since we were little kids, because we were in the same class at school and so were my big sister and his brother, so we know each other since we were around 6 years old. At school there were some times in which we spent all the time together and some times that we didn't, but somehow we have always been very close to each other, in fact we were actually  a couple when we were 10 years old! haha but luckily that ended, we would be a terrible couple!

He is a very relaxed and cheerful and almost never judges people, I think those things are the ones that makes me more comfortable to be his friend, besides we spent a great time together and laugh a lot!. On some things, we are very different but I think that's what makes us such great friends! I can't think on the best memory I have with him because we have a lot!, I don't know which of them could be the best, but I think that most of them are concentrated in 2013, that year we spent like every day together because it was our last year at school so we did a lot of crazy things together haha :) . Now that we are both at different universities we don't see each other much, but we always talk and usually travel together when we are on vacations, so we always keep in touch.

That's all! bye

My future job

Hi everybody! Today I will talk to you about my future job. Two years ago, when I had to decide what to study I had no idea of what I wanted to do with my life. I was very lost about it, so I started to think about what kind of job I would like to have, and I thought that I would definitely  hate to work in a traditional office, but I was still very lost.

The comic strip from Liniers
One day I was seeing a book of Liniers, and I saw a comic strip that kept me thinkinig... And I remembered that when I was little I loved to play on the ground, recolecting flowers and writing on my notebook about my little "expeditions". I thought that if  I studied something like that I would be happy, just as when I was a little girl. And that's how I got to forestry :)

Nothofagus pumilio forest in Tierra del Fuego
Now, I'm really happy with what I am studying, but I have no idea what I'm going to do next, I would like to specialize on something but I don't know on what area yet. I think that my dream job would be me doing research about the ecology of forests, going to recolect data on field and studying the way forests work. Or I would also like to specialize in desert ecosystems and how to preserve them... Now that I think about it, I really don't know on what area I would like to specialize, I only know that I would like to work doing research about the ecosystems of Chile, but I think that I still need some time to really know what I want.

What about you? do you know what do you want to do in the future?

Elections

Hello, today I'm going to talk about a very important issue, elections. As citizens, we have the right and the responsibility to vote in order to contribute with the decisions that are made for our country. I think voting is something that every person should do, but more importantly everybody should be informed about the candidates and their history and ideas. Personally, I've only had the opportunity to vote once, because I am only 20 years old and in my country you must be 18 years old to have the right to vote. I think the next presidential elections are in 2017, I hope that it will be a candidate that represents my thoughts, or at least some of them, but I am definitely going to vote.

Something that I don't like a lot about elections is the way that some candidates do their electoral campaigns in our country, I think that there is completely unnecessary to put big posters with their faces on EVERY corner on the street, it's very expensive and they could do a lot of more informative things with the money they spend on that number of posters. I enjoy more when all the candidates are in situations of debate, discussion, speeches, or things like that because you can know them better and make an informed choice.

Unfortunately, in Chile there is not much civic education and also there is a lot of mistrust on the politicians and the way they act, so there is a lot of citizens that stop believing that voting was the opportunity to make a change, therefore the amount of votes that are received doesn't represent the majority. I think that it is important to vote even if you annul your vote as sign of protest, but if you don't vote it's like you didn't care at all.

A day to remember

Hi everybody! Today I’m going to write about one of the best days of my entire life! It was summer of 2013 and my older sister, Darinka, invited me to join her and some friends on a trip to Patagonia, a place I wanted to visit since I was a little girl. She bought me the tickets to the plane from Santiago to Punta Arenas and I worked 3 months to get the rest of the money I needed. We went to do the Torres del Paine complete circuit, popularly known as the O circuit.

I remember I was very nervous because that circuit includes the most difficult trekking in the whole park and I had heard lots of histories about the bad weather that it takes place on that zone of the park. It was the John Gardner path, the highest point (in altitude) of the circuit.
That day we got up very early, we left camping “Los Perros” at 9 am and we started to walk with 14 kg in our backpacks and with a little rain. At first, the path goes through a forest and the soil was very muddy, so it was very easy to fall. Then we arrive to a zone of  rocks, it was beautiful! You could see many glaciers from there, and it was getting very cold. After 3 hours of walking we finally got to the hardest part of the trekking, but I found it very fun! It was like a game, there was a lot of mist and rain therefore we couldn't see anything that was farther than one meter.

Luckily, there were some rocks painted in orange that showed the way to cross the John Gardner zone, so we stopped in every orange rock and started to look for the other one, sometimes it took us more than five minutes to discover where was the next orange rock, but I was very happy despite the cold air and the mist. Once we got to the final part of that path it was suppose that we were going to see the Grey glacier, but because of the mist we couldn’t see it, so we follow the path into a forest of Nothofagus, it was amazing, it looked like a haunted forest. I knew that once we were out of the forest, we would see the glacier, so I started to run downhill because I was very excited (I fell down like three times, but never mind!)… And suddenly it was there: the entire Grey glacier and it was breath-taking. We have lunch with that view, it was very peaceful.

     The Grey glacier

In the park there’s no electricity, so I had no idea of the day of the week or month at that moment, but as soon as I could see a calendar I looked  for the date of that day, it was February 26th, the best day of my life.

Best concert I've ever seen

Hi everybody! today I'm going to talk about  concerts.
Actually, I'm not a big concert person, I can't think about spending lots of money only for seeing an artist or making long lines to get a ticket, fortunatelly the artists I like doesn't make very expensive concerts :)
I remember one concert I went 3 years ago with my sisters and my brother, it was the launch of the first album of Perota Chingó and the invited artis was Pascuala Ilabaca, two artist we enjoy together. The concert took place at Matucana 100 cultural centre.

I always remember that day because it was the first time me and my siblings went out all together and we had a great time! The atmosphere of the concert was very friendly and warm because these artists are very close to their public, I remember that they were all without shoes and told us lots of stories about their trips and concerts. But the funniest thing about it was that to the end of the concert Perota Chingo actually threw an album to the public, it came very far from us, but still!

And from that day me and siblings always get together to see artists we enjoy together :)
How about you? Do you get together with someone to go to concerts?
Leave a comment :) !

ICELAND :)

Hi everybody, today I'm going to talk to you about a country which I found amazing, Iceland. Actually, I've never been there  but I would love to go some day.
To be truth I don't know a lot of things about Iceland, but it called my atention one time my brother showed me this video and then I read an article in a magazine that said some things about the beautiful landscapes that you can find in this country. Iceland is an island located in the Atlantic ocean, to the south of the artic circle and because of its location between two tectonic plates it's one of the most geologically active regions of the word, this means it has many volcanos and geysers that form the most amazing landscapes.

As I said before, I don't know much about this country, but when I see the pictures of it, I feel like I should go there for a long time to learn everything about its geography and history. Maybe I would like to go with a friend and stay there for about a year, to do some trekking together and know the culture of the icelanders.

Tell me what you think about the video and the picture on your comments!

See you! :P
